At night the color of a tiger is hard to distinguish, but the black stripes, white of their coat and deep shadows sharply contrast and flash as they move. Their movements are quick and decisive, in a flash they might leap through the foliage right towards you, which was the idea behind this piece. Scratchboard started as a black and white medium and this piece seemed to lend itself to black and white with an emphasis on shadows.
